The Motorcycle Tests

As of 1st of January 2001, all people wishing to ride a motorbike on the road must complete a course of Compulsory Basic Training (CBT). Upoon completion of this course they will recieve Training Certificate DL196, which will be valid for 2 years from the completion of the CBT course. Certificates which were issued before 1st of January 2001.

You do not need to complete a course of CBT if:

  • You have already passed a moped test on or after 1st of December 1990 (see further down for informatiojn on mopeds)
  • You already hold a valid motorcycle licence, but wish to upgrade your licence to allow you to drive faster and more powerful motorbikes

Once you have completed your CBT course, and recieved your Training Certificate, you may take to a motorcycle examiner, in order to take your practical test, after which you will achieve your full Motorcycle Licence.

Mopeds

A moped is defined as a motorcycle which:

  • Cannot go faster than 50km/h ()
  • Has an engine which is not larger than 50cc
