What Is The Minimum Wage?

This is the wage guaranteed by law. It is illegal for an employer to pay full time employees less than this per hour.

The current minimum wage is £4.10 per hour, and the government is in the process of passing legislation, which will increase it to £4.20 per hour in October 2002.

The young workers minimum wage is currently £3.20, but this will also be rising in October 2002 to £3.60. The young workers minimum wage applies to people between the ages of 18 and 21.

There is no minimum wage for children under 18, but in many cases they are severly limited in the types of work they do. For more details see the Young Workers section.
